Work Study is a formal award which is part of the financial aid package that students can apply for. To begin the application process, contact the CSM Financial Aid Office and/or view the steps on the website: http://inside.mines.edu/Apply-for-Financial-Aid_1. Parents and students must complete application forms through CSM and through FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) website http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.
Plan ahead! Though the application process is not difficult, it does take a little time and is dependent on your federal income tax return. Once awarded the Financial Aid package, students will view the details including the amount awarded for the year and print their contracts from Trailhead Self-Service under the Financial Aid tab (see the Requirements section) and carry this form to the department where they hope to work. Upon selection for the job, the student and department supervisor will complete the contract form.
If a student chooses to not use the Work Study award during a semester, he/she must contact the Financial Aid office to defer funding. Failure to communicate with the FA office may result in loss of the award for the entire year.
